A WIND PHONE
It is an unplugged phone set within an organic, vibrant art installation.
A WIND CALL
Close your eyes and focus on a loved one or pet who has passed. Pick up the receiver and speak from the heart. Say an unspoken goodbye, or simply share your day. The wind knows the way and will carry your voice exactly where it belongs.
THE HISTORY OF THE WIND PHONE
This installation is a heartfelt homage to the original Kaze no Denwa (The Wind Phone), created in 2010 by garden designer Itaru Sasaki in Otsuchi, Japan. Originally built to help him cope with the loss of his cousin, the phone was later opened to the public after the 2011 tsunami to help the community grieve. Since then, replicas have been created around the world as monuments of collective healing.

HOW TO INTERACT WITH THE PIECE
Traditional art usually asks you to observe from a distance, but this installation is incomplete without you. You are explicitly invited to step into the space, touch the artwork, and use it. Please know the phone is completely unplugged and unrecorded. Your words are entirely private.
Take as much time as you need. The physical phone is simply a tool to help ground your thoughts and bridge the gap between here and there.
FOR YOUNGER WIND CALLERS
A smaller phone is also available specifically for children. Kids process loss in their own unique ways, and having a phone at their height welcomes them into the experience.
If you aren’t sure how to introduce the concept to a child, you can simply invite them to “leave a voicemail” for a family member or pet they are missing. There is no pressure—whether they want to have a full conversation, just press the buttons, or say a quick “I love you,” their interaction is entirely welcome.
FOR OUR ANIMAL COMPANIONS
The grief of losing a pet is profound, yet often kept quiet. Día de los Muertos is a time to remember all the souls who shaped our lives, including our animals. Whether you are missing a childhood dog, a recently passed cat, or any pet who left their mark on your heart, you are encouraged to pick up the receiver for them, too. Tell them you miss them, or simply thank them for their unconditional love.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hello, my name is Jordy. I built this installation as a gift to our community because grief is something we all inevitably share. This passion project started from a very personal place: I was searching for a way to process the loss of my childhood cat, Tyson, and my grandmother, Emily. I stumbled upon the wind phone concept online and thought it was incredibly beautiful, but I quickly realized there wasn’t one in San Antonio, so I decided to build it myself. I pitched the idea to Pearl, and they were incredibly supportive of bringing this space to life for their Día de los Muertos celebration.
